NFL Championship Sunday has concluded with the Kansas City Chiefs and San Francisco 49ers each punching their ticket to Super Bowl LIV at Hard Rock Stadium in Miami Gardens, Fla.
Before that matchup gets underway, the NFL will shift its attention to the annual Pro Bowl Game this Sunday. The AFC and NFC are set to battle it out for bragging rights, with dozens of the sport’s biggest names expected to play in the exhibition contest.
The Los Angeles Rams will be represented by two defensive cornerstones in All-Pro defensive tackle Aaron Donald and All-Pro cornerback Jalen Ramsey.
For Donald, it marks his sixth selection in as many seasons since being drafted with the 13th overall pick in 2014. He was voted in as a starter alongside Fletcher Cox of the Philadelphia Eagles for interior defensive lineman.
Donald is coming off yet another strong year in which he accumulated 48 tackles, a league-leading 20 tackles for loss, 24 quarterback hits, 12.5 sacks and two forced fumbles.
Though the numbers represent a bit of a drop-off from last season, Donald is still considered by many to be the best player at his position. He is once again in the running for NFL Defensive Player of the Year honors, having won the award the past two seasons.
Ramsey, acquired by the Rams for a haul of draft picks last October, helped fortify a secondary that had underperformed before his arrival.
In nine games with L.A., Ramsey accumulated 33 tackles, four passes defended, one interception and one forced fumble. He often locked down the side of the field he was on as opposing quarterbacks rarely threw in his direction.
Ramsey’s Pro Bowl nod is his third in as many seasons, having earned the first two selections while a member of the Jacksonville Jaguars. He was voted in a reserve behind Richard Sherman of the 49ers and Marshon Lattimore of the New Orleans Saints, although Sherman playing in the Super Bowl means Ramsey could potentially step into a starting role.
