While the Oakland Raiders may be sitting at home watching, unfortunately, this year’s NFL postseason certainly has not disappointed.
This past weekend held some more surprises, but for the most part, three of the teams advancing to the championship rounds were those that were expected to. Despite that, the weekend did not lack tension and excitement.
The biggest shake-up happened in the AFC with the six-seed Tennessee Titans shockingly defeating the Baltimore Ravens. Despite MVP favorite Lamar Jackson amassing over 500 yards of offense on the day, the Ravens had trouble converting in the red zone. On top of that, they had multiple turnovers on downs allowing the Titans to have some excellent field position.
Factor in Derrick Henry‘s 190 yard performance on the day and that results in a 28-12 victory for the Titans. This is the Titans’ first time advancing to the Conference Championship since 2002.
The Titans will be going up against the red-hot Kansas City Chiefs, who beat the Houston Texans 51-31. Although the Chiefs were down 24-0 at one point, there is no counting out Patrick Mahomes, as Raider fans know.
The game turned out to be a shoot out between Mahomes and Deshaun Watson with both players amassing over 300 passing yards on the day. Mahomes finished with five touchdown passes to Watson’s two, giving the Chiefs the edge despite the poor start.
In the NFC, the San Francisco 49ers handily took care of the Minnesota Vikings, winning 27-10. The 49ers defense was as stellar as they have been all season, limiting Dalvin Cook to just 18 yards on the day and sacking Kirk Cousins six times.
The 49ers will take on the Green Bay Packers, who narrowly escaped the Seattle Seahawks. Aaron Rodgers had a his typical solid game, going for 243 yards and two touchdown passes. The Seahawks had one more chance with less than five minutes left to take the lead but ended up going three-and-out and losing shortly thereafter, 28-23.
