With the Los Angeles Dodgers hosting the San Francisco Giants for a 1:10 p.m. PT start at Dodger Stadium on Saturday, it marks their second national broadcast of the young season and first of five broadcasts on Fox or FS1 this year.
Each of the five Dodgers games on Fox and FS1 are also going to be carried by Fox Deportes. Of those five, two are exclusively a national broadcast. The first being Saturday, and the other when the Dodgers play the Houston Astros on Saturday, Sept. 12, which will air on Fox.
Meanwhile, the three Dodgers games being televised on FS1 all come during the week and on the road. The first is Tuesday, July 28, the Dodgers’ first meeting with the Astros at Minute Maid Park (6:10 p.m. start)
FS1 is also carrying games against the L.A. Angels (Aug. 14) and Giants (Aug. 25). None of this season’s FS1 games are exclusive telecasts, nor are they subject to local blackout rules.
Fox Sports is in its 25th season of covering MLB games and a fifth consecutive year with a lead broadcast team of Joe Buck, John Smoltz and Ken Rosenthal. Dodgers broadcaster Joe Davis is again reprising his periodic role on the national level, working alongside A.J. Pierzynski.
The Fox broadcast team also includes Kevin Burkhardt, Aaron Goldsmith, Tom Verducci, Eric Karros and newcomer Adam Amin.
Fox bring fans to broadcasts
Although the Dodgers and other teams have taken to filling selection sections of their respective stadiums with fan cutouts, Fox is taking matters one step further with its broadcasts this season.
The network is introducing “virtual fans” to its live broadcasts by utilizing cutting-edge Pixatope software. With that, Fox Sports will fill seats with digital fans, all of whom can make movements that emulate what a crowd might look like.
It comes with the ability to change the colors of clothes in the crowd to better create the appearance of a home-field advantage. Producers also will have the option to reduce the appearance of the crowd size if the game score is well in hand.
