Tyler Glasnow was dominant for Triple-A Oklahoma City on Wednesday in what should be his final rehab start before rejoining the Los Angeles Dodgers rotation.
Glasnow allowed one run and one hit in 5.1 innings of work against the Sugar Land Space Cowboys (Houston Astros’ affiliate). He collected nine strikeouts and walked only one batter on 77 pitches (54 strikes).
The 32-year-old worked around a one-out double in the second inning. The only other baserunner he gave up was a leadoff walk in the sixth. That runner later came around to score after the right-hander exited his outing.
Glasnow’s four-seam fastball averaged 95.5 mph against the Space Cowboys, which was right in line with his average in the Majors this season. He generated 12 whiffs, including six with his knuckle curve.
The former All-Star has now made four rehab starts, three with the Comets and one for Single-A Ontario. He has posted a minuscule 1.32 ERA and 0.51 WHIP with 20 strikeouts against four walks in 13.2 innings pitched.
Glasnow has been sidelined for more than three months due to lower back spasms, but should return to the Dodgers in the near future. He went 3-0 with a 2.72 ERA, 3.24 FIP, 0.83 WHIP and 11.1 strikeouts per nine in 39.2 innings across seven starts prior to landing on the injured list.
Tyler Glasnow rejoining Dodgers rotation
Glasnow could make his return start when the Dodgers begin their next road trip against the Atlanta Braves at Truist Park from Aug. 25-27. Another possibility is the for the two-time World Series champion to face the Detroit Tigers at Comerica Park from Aug. 28-30.
Glasnow should slot into the rotation for Justin Wrobleski, who was recently placed on the IL with left forearm inflammation. That would give the team a six-man rotation of Glasnow, Yoshinobu Yamamoto, Tarik Skubal, Eric Lauer and Roki Sasaki for the time being.
The Dodgers won’t need to make a corresponding move on the 40-man roster for Glasnow as they have an open spot after designating Jonathan Heráandez for assignment.
The Dodgers also hope to get Shohei Ohtani back on the mound this season, who completed a 35-pitch bullpen session at Coors Field on Tuesday. He hasn’t pitched since early July because of left knee trouble, but continues to make progress and could face live hitters soon.
