The Los Angeles Dodgers activated Tyler Glasnow from the 60-day injured list and optioned Paul Gervase to Triple-A Oklahoma City ahead of Tuesday’s series opener against the Atlanta Braves. The Dodgers had an open spot on their 40-man roster, which is now full with Glasnow’s return.
That was created by designating Jonathan Heráandez for assignment last week as the corresponding move to Brock Stewart returning.
Gervase had been up with the Dodgers since Friday, but he did not appear in the series against the Pittsburgh Pirates. It marked a fourth time Gervase had been recalled this season. Gervase has one more option remaining before reaching the single-season limit of five.
He last had been recalled July 2 but spent only a brief stint at the Major League level as the Dodgers optioned Gervase as one of the corresponding moves to Evan Phillips getting activated off the 60-day injured list July 6.
Gervase has made four appearances for L.A. this season, firing 7.2 innings with eight strikeouts and a 2.35 ERA. The 26-year-old has appeared in 10 Major League games in his career, posting a 3.38 ERA with 16 strikeouts in 16 innings.
During his time with the Comets, the right-hander has gone 2-1 with a 4.86 ERA over 31 games this year.
Tyler Glasnow returns
Glasnow is scheduled to start for the Dodgers on Tuesday against the Braves. He has not pitched in a Major League game since May 6, when he left a start against the Houston Astros in the second inning with lower back spasms.
Glasnow allowed one run and one hit in 5.1 innings of work against the Sugar Land Space Cowboys, which was his final rehab appearance. Glasnow’s four-seam fastball averaged 95.5 mph against the Space Cowboys, which was right in line with his average in the Majors this season. He generated 12 whiffs, including six with his knuckle curve.
He made four rehab appearances, going 0-1 with a 1.32 ERA and 20 strikeouts in 13.2 innings.
The 33-year-old went 3-0 with a 2.72 ERA, 3.24 FIP, 0.83 WHIP and 11.1 strikeouts per nine in 39.2 innings across seven starts prior to landing on the injured list.
Glasnow’s return has bumped Eric Lauer into the bullpen, and that’s a role Justin Wrobleski is going to fill as well once he is activated off the injured list. Lauer is available to pitch in relief Tuesday and then will be paired up to piggyback with Shohei Ohtani as he is on the verge of joining the starting rotation.
