The Las Vegas Raiders shook things up in the offseason when they released longtime quarterback Derek Carr.

Carr had a rough stretch during the 2022 season that led to his benching, and the two sides eventually parted ways. With Carr gone, Las Vegas turned to free agency, where they picked up Jimmy Garoppolo, who’s very familiar with head coach Josh McDaniels.

Before the Raiders signed Garoppolo, the team was linked to Tom Brady as a potential replacement for Carr. Brady ended up retiring but still found his way to the organization when he is currently in the process of becoming a minority owner of the team. Brady and Mark Davis already have a working relationship when the former agreed to become a minority owner of the Las Vegas Aces.

Troy Aikman thinks Brady and Las Vegas make a lot of sense together and added the thinks the future Hall of Famer will want a big role with the Silver and Black via TMZ Sports:

“It’s a good fit for Tom. I’m not surprised by it, especially after his other partnership with (owner) Mark Davis,” Aikman said. “I would imagine, being Tom Brady and being a silent partner or a minority investor would be hard, to only be that. I would think that he would want to have a fairly significant role within the organization.”

Aikman even threw out the possibility that Brady’s involvement with the Raiders could even include playing at some point:

“Maybe (he’d be) involved to the point where he’s actually suiting up. I don’t wanna speak for Tom. (But) I wouldn’t rule anything out. He obviously has a relationship with the head coach. He knows the offense. He’ll keep himself in great shape. … I would bet that nothing’s off the table as far as what may occur during the season or what Tom’s role may be.

“I think he’s done playing, but you just never know.”

There are concerns about Garoppolo’s health as he underwent foot surgery shortly after signing with the team and is expected to miss all of OTAs. While he should be back for training camp, there are no guarantees which could very well open the door for Brady to come out of retirement a second time.

It wouldn’t be impossible for Brady to suit up for Las Vegas, as he’d need 24 out of the 32 league owners to agree. While it seems highly unlikely at this juncture of the offseason, things can change quickly in the NFL.
