Sean McVay Impressed With Jalen Ramsey’s Leadership; Hopes He’s With Rams For ‘Long Time’

While the Los Angeles Rams have had a busy offseason, inking star cornerback Jalen Ramsey to a long-term extension is still on their to-do list.

Ever since the Rams gave up two first-round picks to acquire him from the Jacksonville Jaguars in the middle of last season, the organization and Ramsey have both made it clear that they want a long-term partnership.

A deal is not in place yet, but the Rams are known to take care of their own players so there is definitely optimism that one will get done. Even if it doesn’t before the start of training camp though, Ramsey recently said that he would not hold out.

Rams head coach Sean McVay recently gave an update on how extension talks are going and made it clear that he wants Ramsey to remain with the organization long-term, via Kevin Patra of NFL.com:

“There’s a lot of dialogue,” McVay said of talks between the Rams and Ramsey’s representation, per Wyche. “The anticipation in acquiring him is that he is a Ram for a long time. We went and got this guy with the hope that it’s not a short-term thing.”

McVay also added that while Ramsey hasn’t been in the organization long, he has been impressed with his leadership ability:

“I’m so impressed with Jalen’s leadership,” McVay said, regarding what he’s seen from Ramsey during virtual meetings. “When he came in (last season) I was so impressed. Now you have a foundation where you’re able to talk to him about stuff outside of football. You really get a feel for his football acumen and seeing the game through the lens he sees it. It’s going to be fun watching him grow. I’m just really enjoying getting to know him better as a human being. The more I know the more I love this guy.”

The Rams lost a number of key defensive players this offseason, meaning guys like Ramsey and Aaron Donald will have to carry the load even more in 2020.

That is why it is so essential that the Rams lock Ramsey up long-term to keep one of their star players happy as they look to get back into the postseason mix in 2020.
