Brenton Doyle drove in two runs with a single. He later scored the deciding run on Ezequiel Tovar’s sacrifice fly during a four-run sixth inning, helping the Colorado Rockies edge the Los Angeles Angels 7-6 on Friday night at Coors Field. The win ended Colorado’s five-game losing streak, extending Los Angeles’ skid to eight games.

Oddsmakers had the Angels as slight -115 favorites on the moneyline, with the Rockies at -105. The total was set at 10.5 runs, and the teams combined for 13, sending the result comfortably over.

The Rockies’ decisive rally came immediately after Los Angeles scored three runs in the top of the fifth to take a 6-3 lead. Colorado loaded the bases in the bottom half and began to chip away. Doyle tied the game with a two-run single to left-center, and Tovar followed with a sacrifice fly to bring home Doyle with the go-ahead run. Another sacrifice fly earlier in the inning had drawn Colorado closer, capping a frame in which the Rockies answered quickly to erase their deficit.

Hunter Goodman provided early production for Colorado with an RBI triple in the first inning, scoring Tyler Freeman. Blaine Crim added a sacrifice fly in the same frame to give the Rockies a 2-0 lead. The Angels responded in the second when Christian Moore and Denzer Guzmán each hit home runs, pushing Los Angeles in front 3-2. Freeman, who finished with three hits , including a double, brought the Rockies even with a run-scoring single in the third.

The Angels regained control in the fifth with a three-run inning. Moore singled, Guzmán walked, and both came around on RBI hits that chased Colorado starter Bradley Blalock. Blalock allowed eight hits and six earned runs in 4 2/3 innings while striking out four, leaving the bullpen to cover the final four frames.

Colorado’s relievers were up to the task, combining for one-hit ball the rest of the way. Victor Vodnik worked the ninth to collect his ninth save. The win went to Blalock, who improved to 2-5 despite his struggles, while Angels rookie Mitch Farris dropped to 1-2 after giving up eight hits and seven runs in 4 2/3 innings.

Goodman’s triple in the opening inning gave him 61 extra-base hits on the season, the most ever by a primary catcher in franchise history. He also became just the third Colorado player since 2022 to reach at least 60 extra-base hits in a season, joining Tovar in 2024 and C.J. Cron in 2022.

With the win, the Rockies improved to 3-14 in September, showing some resilience after a rough month. For the Angels, the loss further deepened their late-season struggles, as they were held to just one hit over the final four innings and failed to capitalize on their early power surge.

The three-game series continues Saturday with right-hander Kyle Hendricks (7-10, 5.01 ERA) scheduled to start for Los Angeles against Colorado’s Germán Márquez (3-14, 6.73 ERA).
