The Los Angeles Rams entered training camp with a much better looking quarterback situation. Matthew Stafford is fully healthy for the first time since being traded to Los Angeles, while the Rams went out and drafted Stetson Bennett in order to presumably be his backup.

Bennett’s got a winning pedigree after helping lead Georgia to consecutive college championships, and comes to L.A. with a chance to learn under Sean McVay and Stafford.

Through the first week of training camp, McVay expressed how impressed he has been with the fourth-round pick. “He’s done good. I thought he had a good day today. I thought the receivers and tight ends, I thought guys made plays for him but he’s pretty steady. You know, what I really like about him is if a play doesn’t go well, he’s able to reset himself and go to the next play. You can definitely feel the athleticism show up that you guys saw on display throughout his career at Georgia and I think he’s getting more and more comfortable.

“(Quarterbacks Coach/Pass Game Coordinator) Zac Robinson does such a good job with that group in general. Obviously, he’s got a great example in (QB) Matthew Stafford for what it looks like, but I thought today was a real bright spot for him and over the last couple days…I think today seemed like, and I’ll go back and look at the film, like his sharpest day at camp up to this point and it was a good day. It was good to be able to see him make some plays.”

While he might not possess the same arm strength that Stafford does, Bennett’s got a knack for feeling pressure and using his legs to roll out and throw on the move. McVay’s typically worked best with signal callers who can hang in the pocket and make a play, but Bennett provides a versatile skillset that makes him an interesting prospect.

Although he probably won’t see many snaps in the 2023 season, Bennett should get ample opportunities to show off what he can do in preseason. His first chance will be on Aug. 12 when they take on the Los Angeles Chargers in their first game of the summer.

Matthew Stafford feeling better physically this training camp compared to last year

Stafford’s health has been a question mark since he came to the team, but this year enters training camp fully healthy. The quarterback admitted that he’s feeling better this time around compared to last year.
