The Los Angeles Rams find themselves in a rather precarious situation heading into the 2020 NFL season.
The Rams are coming off a disappointing 2019 NFL season that saw them miss the playoffs with a 9-7 record following their Super Bowl run the year before. They subsequently parted ways with a grand total of seven starters this offseason either through free agency or in an effort to shore up some much-needed cap space.
By all accounts, Los Angeles should be on the cusp of a rebuild with a roster full of holes and limited resources to fill them with. Regardless, it seems the team is still as optimistic as ever.
According to ESPN’s Lindsey Thiry, Rams COO Kevin Demoff is confident that general manager Les Snead and head coach Sean McVay will continue to be aggressive this offseason:
“It’s always interesting how we are only a few days into the new league year and people think this is the team that you are going to field come September,” Demoff said. “Not only do we have the draft and the rest of the offseason, I think Les and Sean have always proven they’ll be aggressive fillings holes through trades and other avenues, and this is just the start of what the 2020 Rams will look like.”
It is certainly encouraging to see that Demoff has the utmost confidence in his staff during these trying times. Of course, it remains to be seen other or not it will come to fruition before the start of the 2020 campaign.
The Rams were dealt some major blows in all phases of the game that included running back Todd Gurley, kicker Greg Zuerlein, along with linebackers Dante Fowler Jr. and Cory Littleton. Although they are hopeful that some of the young talent on their roster will be able to step up, they will still need to shore up some contingency plans if they are going to solidify Demoff’s notion.
After all, Los Angeles is set to usher in a new era at SoFi Stadium next season and any talk of a potential rebuild is not going to help fill up the 70,000-seat venue. Furthermore, the team doubled down on keeping their championship window open by investing plenty of capital in order to bring in cornerback Jalen Ramsey.
Despite their recent struggles, Demoff’s comments indicate that Snead and McVay still have the green light to pull the trigger on any deal they fell will help improve the Rams’ chances of getting back to the playoffs.
