Rams News: Jared Goff Ready To Get Back To Winning And Understands It Starts With His Play

4 Min Read

It is no secret that the quarterback position is the most important in football, not only for what they do on the field but also as a leader of the team.

For the Los Angeles Rams, their leader now and in the future will be Jared Goff. After a successful 2018 in which he guided to the Rams to the Super Bowl, Goff seems to have taken a bit of a step back this season.

While there are a number of issues surrounding the Rams as a team, it seems that Goff has been one of the players most affected by those changes. He has thrown a career-high 15 interceptions and is on pace to throw his fewest touchdown passes since his rookie year when he played just seven games.

Despite that, the Rams are still hoping to finish the season with a winning record. At worst they will break even at 8-8, but after a Super Bowl appearance this past February, this is certainly not the outcome many hoped for. For Goff, he knows that a quarterback’s job is to earn those wins for his team, via Lindsey Thiry of ESPN:

“When we win is when I feel the best, and I think that’s a quarterback’s job is to win,” said Goff, who has a 34-15 record, including playoffs, since 2017. “By no means does that mean play bad every week and win and you’re happy.”

Goff certainly has had bad games despite the Rams winning. Even in the team’s impressive win over the Seattle Seahawks, Goff threw two interceptions.

Their most recent loss to the Dallas Cowboys saw Goff throw yet another interception in addition to two touchdown passes, missing multiple easy throws. Now for the Rams to make the playoffs, they will need to win a tough game in San Francisco against the 49ers and their final game against the Arizona Cardinals, in addition to having the Minnesota Vikings drop both of their final games.

With that in mind, Goff is hoping that the Rams final games can show what the offense should have been:

“All we can do is move forward and try to win each game one at a time,” said Goff, in his usual calm and matter-of-fact way. “It’s a good opportunity for us to go out and compete and show who we are.”

Hopefully, the Rams can come away with at least one win to finish above .500. Of course making it to the playoffs is the goal, but there is no telling what kind of effort the Rams will put forward week-to-week as they have been one of the more inconsistent teams in the league.
