The Atlanta Braves re-signed Raisel Iglesias to a one-year, $16 million contract as they got ahead of the free agency market to keep their veteran relief pitcher.

Iglesias was among notable options available on the open market and reportedly drew interest from the Chicago Cubs, Los Angeles Dodgers and Toronto Blue Jays, in addition to other teams.

According to Francys Romero, Iglesias received contract offers from the Dodgers and Blue Jays that were in the neighborhood of his eventual deal with the Braves:

Iglesias has been with the Braves since getting traded by the Los Angeles Angels during the 2022 season. That came while the right-hander was in the midst of a down season after signing a four-year, $58 million contract.

Iglesias put together a strong close to the 2022 campaign and continued to pitch well for the Braves over the next two years. Iglesias struggled a bit to begin 2025, specifically with giving up home runs.

But from June through the end of the season, Iglesias recaptured his form and finished with a 3.21 ERA, 3.31 FIP and 0.95 WHIP to go along with 29 saves in 34 opportunities.

Dodgers bullpen options after not signing Raisel Iglesias

By all accounts the Dodgers are looking to make additions to their bullpen this offseason, and there still are multiple options available after missing out on Inglesias.

The Dodgers could still make a play for any one of Devin Williams, Pete Fairbanks, Edwin Díaz or Robert Suárez. What could complicate matters, however, is their respective markets may amount to multi-year and in some cases long-term contracts.

Iglesias only signing for one year fits well within the Dodgers’ approach, which in turn likely explains their interest and contract offer.
