One of the new additions this offseason that is sure to play a big role for the Los Angeles Lakers is guard Quentin Grimes. The guard seems likely to be in the starting lineup alongside Luka Doncic and Austin Reaves and will operate as a key perimeter defender and secondary creator on offense.
While Grimes was born and raised in Houston, Texas, joining the Lakers has always been a dream of his and that is due in large part to his father, who grew up a fan of the team and even took Grimes to games where he was able to watch Kobe Bryant.
“My Dad grew up a Lakers fan,” Grimes said in an introductory interview. “He dressed me up as a baby as a little Laker. Took me to Lakers games, Kobe when they played the Rockets back in Houston. So it kind of a full-circle moment. He was super excited once we made that decision in free agency and was able to come here.”
The Lakers are one of the most popular franchises in sports so Grimes’ father being a fan, and raising a young Quentin as a fan, despite being in Houston makes sense. But now that he is part of the purple and gold himself, Grimes plans on bringing a lot to the table for his new team.
“It means a lot to be a Laker,” Grimes added. “You can expect a do-it-all kind of guy. Scorer, defender, can make plays off the dribble. We have really good guys all-around with this team so I’m super excited to be here and get to work.”
Grimes has produced in a big way whenever he has been given an opportunity throughout his NBA career and has been outstanding over the past couple seasons with the Philadelphia 76ers. He averaged 15.7 points, 4.1 rebounds and 3.6 assists in 103 games with the Sixers after he was acquired in the middle of the 2025 season. He also has experience playing with Doncic as he spent a brief time with the Mavericks as well.
But playing for the Lakers has always seemed like destiny for Grimes since he was a kid and now he gets the opportunity to live out his dream and play a big role for this team.
Quentin Grimes likes Lakers new roster
Grimes is one of many new additions the Lakers made this offseason along with the likes of Walker Kesler, Sandro Mamukelashvili and Collin Sexton and he believes this team will surprise a lot of people this year.
