The Los Angeles Dodgers and Toronto Blue Jays played one of the most memorable World Series in MLB history, but it’s yet to be immortalized through a traditional documentary.

But the lack of a 2025 World Series documentary up to this point doesn’t mean the release of the anticipated film isn’t happening. According to Bill Shaikin of the L.A. Times, MLB is still working on the project and will release it in the coming months.

Major League Baseball did commission a documentary, as it always does, but the film was not ready for release by the time spring training started. The series was so dramatic that the league is looking into options for a high-profile rollout, probably around midseason.

Apple TV+ spearheaded the development of the “Fight for Glory: 2024 World Series” documentary, but it’s not yet known if they’re behind the 2025 film as well. The three-part docuseries provided never-before-seen footage and highlighted all of the most powerful moments from the World Series. Among them ended up being Freddie Freeman’s walk-off grand slam in Game 1 at Dodger Stadium.

The project was produced in partnership with MLB and award-winning Imagine Documentaries, R.J. Cutler’s acclaimed This Machine, a part of Sony Pictures Television, and five-time World Series champion and executive producer Derek Jeter, alongside his production company, Cap 2 Productions.

Whenever it does release, the 2025 World Series documentary won’t be the first time the Dodgers are on film this year.

MLB Studios partnered with BD4, Supper Club and Fathom Entertainment to create “Homecoming: The Tokyo Series,” which covered the games played between the Dodgers and Chicago Cubs in Japan.

The film was an effort by MLB to celebrate the international growth of baseball and highlight the 2025 MLB World Tour.

The documentary was shown in theaters from Feb. 23-24 and was available to stream beginning on March 27 via CNN’s streaming services.

The Tokyo Series was a particularly powerful moment for the Japanese players who were on the Dodgers and Cubs and rosters at the time, with Shohei Ohtani, Yoshinobu Yamamoto, Roki Sasaki, Seiya Suzuki and Shōta Imanaga enjoying an opportunity to return home.
