Maxx Crosby, Raiders

A major bombshell was dropped on Tuesday night as the Las Vegas Raiders announced that the Baltimore Ravens backed out of their trade for star edge rusher Maxx Crosby.

The Ravens were set to acquire Crosby in exchange for two first-round draft picks, but reportedly pulled out of the deal after the 28-year-old failed his physical. Crosby remains ahead of schedule in his recovery from offseason left knee surgery, according to a statement put out by his agent, CJ LaBoy.

Crosby’s immediate future is now uncertain as a number of scenarios could play out between now and the start of the 2026 season. However, he is believed to have his mind set on returning to the Raiders and helping them win football games, via Ian Rapoport of NFL Network:

It isn’t clear if the Raiders feel the same way about Crosby as they could still try to trade him. In fact, a recent report suggested that several teams have already reached out to Las Vegas about Crosby’s availability.

That should come as no surprise as Crosby is one of football’s premier pass rushers and a true game-changer when healthy. However, the Raiders won’t just give him away and could decide to keep him if they don’t get a suitable offer.

Las Vegas presumably won’t move Crosby for anything less than the original package they were set to receive from the Ravens, but interested teams might be more reluctant to give up two first-round draft picks in the wake of reports that the five-time Pro Bowler failed his physical.

No matter what happens, the Raiders seem to be in a win-win position here: Either they get a nice haul for Crosby to kickstart their rebuild, or they enter the 2026 season with one of the best sack artists in football.

Raiders trading Geno Smith to Jets

In other news, the Raiders are reportedly set to trade Geno Smith and a seventh-round draft pick to the New York Jets in exchange for a sixth-round pick.

With Smith no longer on the roster, the Raiders will have Fernando Mendoza and Aidan O’Connell as quarterbacks under contract once the former gets draft. It will be interesting to see if they add a veteran presence to that group who could help mentor Mendoza or if they stick with O’Connell as their primary backup.
