In a matchup where the Seattle Mariners entered as moderate favorites with moneyline odds around -135 and the Los Angeles Angels listed at +115, Jorge Polanco delivered a standout performance that proved decisive. The Mariners secured a 5-3 victory on Tuesday night at T-Mobile Park, with Polanco accounting for all five of Seattle’s runs.

Polanco Powers Mariners with Two Home Runs

Jorge Polanco continued his hot streak with a pair of home runs that accounted for five RBIs, solidifying his status as one of the American League’s most productive hitters this month. In the second inning, with two outs and two runners on base, Polanco sent a sinker from Angels starter Jack Kochanowicz over the right-center field wall for a three-run homer. He added a second blast in the seventh inning, a two-run shot off reliever Jose Fermin. It was Polanco’s ninth home run of the season and his second multi-homer game in three days.

Polanco’s recent surge has elevated his status within the Mariners’ lineup. He entered the game having gone 8-for-17 with four home runs and eight RBIs over the previous week, earning him recognition as the American League Player of the Week.

Miller and Mariners’ Pitching Hold Off Angels

Seattle’s starting pitcher, Bryce Miller, delivered a strong outing, going five scoreless innings, allowing just two hits and striking out six. His performance helped set the tone early, giving the Mariners a 3-0 lead after Polanco’s first homer and keeping the Angels off the board through the middle innings.

The Angels attempted to mount a late comeback. Logan O’Hoppe launched a solo homer in the seventh inning to get Los Angeles on the scoreboard. In the eighth, Nolan Schanuel and Jorge Soler each hit run-scoring doubles, trimming the Mariners’ lead to two runs. However, Andrés Muñoz came on in the ninth and retired the side to record his 11th save of the season.

Kochanowicz and Angels Fall Short

Jack Kochanowicz pitched effectively for most of his outing, completing six innings while surrendering just three runs, all of which came on Polanco’s early homer. Despite Kochanowicz’s solid effort, the Angels’ offense struggled to generate consistent pressure against the Mariners’ pitching staff until the late innings.

Jorge Soler and Nolan Schanuel provided some late-game spark, but it was not enough to overcome Seattle’s early lead. The Angels dropped their second consecutive game in the short two-game series and remain winless in their last five outings.

Looking Ahead

Seattle, now with 17 wins on the season and winners in five of their last six games, will aim for a series sweep in Wednesday’s finale. Right-hander Emerson Hancock (1-1, 7.71 ERA) is scheduled to start for the Mariners, while the Angels will counter with left-hander Tyler Anderson (2-0, 2.60 ERA).
