LeBron James suddenly became the most intriguing free agent this summer with his decision to not re-sign with the Los Angeles Lakers after eight seasons.
The era closed as James’ longest uninterrupted tenure with one team at double his four seasons with the Miami Heat from 2010-14. James’ total number of seasons with the Cleveland Cavaliers is 11, though he left the team after seven years to begin his NBA career before later returning.
Now James is fielding interest from several teams but is not in any rush to make a decision on where he’ll play for the 2026-27 NBA season.

As fans await James’ decision more than two weeks into the start of free agency, Dave McMenamin of ESPN reported on Friday, July 17 that he is “truly close” to making a decision.
The Cavaliers, Heat, Philadelphia 76ers, Golden State Warriors and Minnesota Timberwolves all still seem to be in the running to varying degrees.
