The Los Angeles Lakers announced they have signed forwards William Kyle III and Cole Swider to Exhibit 10 contracts. Additionally, the team has waived guards Meechie Johnson and Chase Ross.
This is part of their roster shuffling as they put together their G League squad for the 2026-27 season. If they don’t get waived in the coming days, they will likely spend training camp and preseason with the parent team before joining the Coachella Valley Lakers
Kyle (6’9”, 230) played at South Dakota State for two college seasons before playing one year at UCLA. He then started all 32 games at Syracuse University during the 2025-26 season, averaging 8.4 points, 7.1 rebounds, 1.0 steals and 2.5 blocks in 28.1 minutes. The 22-year-old led the ACC in both blocks and blocks per game during the regular season.
As a part of the Lakers’ Summer League team, Kyle showed enough rim protection and rebounding prowess to earn a further look in the organization.
Swider (6’8”, 220) is another familiar face who played in 21 games (three starts) for Anadolu Efes of the Turkish Basketball Super League last season, averaging 7.6 points and 1.6 rebounds in 13.9 minutes. The 27-year-old previously spent the 2022-23 season with the Lakers as a two-way player, appearing in seven games, and also was in their G League system as recently as 2024-25 while playing for the Summer League team in 2025.
Johnson and Ross were signed by the Lakers on Sept. 18.
Rob Pelinka and Lakers valuing continuity
This offseason has been different than usual for the Lakers as they gave out a lot of four-year contracts in free agency. Rob Pelinka recently discussed that shift and the value of continuity moving forward.
“Yeah, I think we feel like this era is going to be an era of more continuity, and having depth was important,” Pelinka said at his annual preseason press conference. “So if you look at what we went and accomplished this summer in terms of the free agents we added, Sandro and Q and Matisse and Ziaire and on and on, we felt like if we lined up a group of guys of like age and like career stage that we could give them a chance to grow and have continuity and get deeper. And so I think we’re confident about both of those things.”
