The Los Angeles Lakers filled their first assistant general manager position as they hired Rohan Ramadas to be in charge of strategy and data systems. But the team still plans to hire another who will be in charge of the player development and scouting side of things, and some names are beginning to emerge.

The Lakers are still doing their due diligence in finding the right person for the job, but one name that is being linked to the organization is Philadelphia 76ers player personnel executive Prosper Karangwa, via Dan Woike of The Athletic:

This isn’t the first time Karangwa’s name has been brought up in regard to the Lakers as he was mentioned as one of the executives the franchise had expressed interest in earlier this offseason. He is a former player who played at Siena University for four years and professionally overseas before beginning his front office journey as a scout with the San Antonio Spurs and Orlando Magic.

Whether it is Karangwa or someone else, the Lakers will need to make their hire soon as the offseason is quickly approaching. The NBA Draft takes place in June and free agency begins right after so the Lakers front office must have their team in place and on the same page in order to make the right moves in building the roster this summer.

This is an extremely important offseason for the Lakers and building out this front office staff is a major first step in returning this franchise to the top of the NBA. With the team having a first-round pick and a number of important free agents this summer there are a lot of decisions to be made and the front office has to be locked in in order for everything to work out the way it should.

New Lakers assistant GM Rohan Ramadas described as a ‘literal rocket scientist’

The Lakers found the person they were looking for with one of their assistant general manager spots in Rohan Ramadas, previously of the New Orleans Pelicans. And with his background, having spent a decade with the Aerospace Corporation before beginning his NBA journey, one person described Ramadas as a “literal rocket scientist.”
