The Los Angeles Rams had terrible injury luck in 2022 that derailed their chance to defend their Super Bowl title.

The offensive line, in particular, got hit hard with injuries that forced the Rams to use numerous configurations over the course of the season. However, this time around they’re better prepared as they kept 10 o-line players on the roster for the 2023 season.

In order to bolster their depth, Los Angeles went out and acquired Kevin Dotson from the Pittsburgh Steelers. Dotson figures to compete for a starting spot and he expressed his excitement about the trade, via Stu Jackson of TheRams.com:

“It’s a new opportunity,” Dotson told theRams.com after Wednesday’s practice. “I like the places I’ve been now. California’s a nice state to be in weather-wise, a lot of stuff to do. I like the team, I like my o-line group, so I feel like it’s all going to come together.”

When discussing what he can bring to the table, Dotson highlighted his run-blocking ability.

“I feel like my strength is in run-blocking,” Dotson said. “I feel like I’m pretty good in pass (blocking) also. And I’m a real team player when it comes to it. Everybody on the Steelers, they’ll vouch for me knowing that I’m a good guy, so I just try to bring that energy here too.”

Finally, Dotson also talked about moving on from Pittsburgh and how he understands that they needed to do what was best for their team:

“I know what I’m capable of,” Dotson said. “I know the Steelers knew what I was capable of, but it’s a business. You got to do what you have to do be great. They did what they had to do, I’ve got to take full advantage of the opportunity and see what I can do when it comes to next year. If I can show that I’m the guy, either I’ll be here, or or I’ll be – whatever happens, I’m just waiting for it.”

The Steelers signed a couple of offensive linemen in free agency that left Dotson in a precarious position. Despite having started 30 games for Pittsburgh, it was clear they were ready to move on which paved the way for Los Angeles to add him to the team.

As of now, the right guard spot is projected to be manned by Tremayne Anchrum Jr. or Joseph Noteboom. However, Dotson should be in the mix and could very well win out at some point during the year.
