The start of the 2026-27 season is right around the corner and to get fans prepared for the upcoming year, the Los Angeles Lakers will hold their annual Media Day on Monday, Sept. 28 at 11:30 a.m. PT.
President of basketball operations and general manager Rob Pelinka and head coach JJ Redick held their annual press conference in advance of Lakers Media Day, offering insight into their offseason moves and what the expectations are for the upcoming regular season. They clearly are excited about the team they were able to put together.
On Monday, the focus will shift to the players as they discuss their offseason and excitement for the season ahead in purple and gold. And for the Lakers, there certainly are a lot of new faces to hear from after they completely overhauled the roster this offseason.
There are some returning players with Luka Doncic and Austin Reaves leading the way in the absence of LeBron James. While trades and roster moves can still take place before Opening Night, Jake LaRavia, Jarred Vanderbilt, Bronny James, Dalton Knecht and Adou Thiero are also all back for another season.
But that means there are at least nine new faces on the roster. The team’s big ticket addition of the summer was Walker Kessler, who projects to be the Lakers’ long-term answer at center after being acquired in a sign-and-trade with the Utah Jazz. He is said to be fully healthy going into his first season with the Lakers, so it will be exciting to hear from the 25-year-old.
Additionally, the Lakers also brought in players like Quentin Grimes, Sandro Mamukelashvili, Collin Sexton, Kevon Looney, Ziaire Williams, Matisse Thybulle and Cameron Carr, many of which will be speaking for the first time since joining the purple and gold.
The Lakers have already gotten a head start on building some chemistry during their minicamp in Doncic’s home country of Slovenia. But once Media Day concludes, they will officially begin training camp to prepare for the long season ahead.
After Media Day, the Lakers will begin practicing and then will open up the preseason on Oct. 5 against the Sacramento Kings on the road.
