The Los Angeles Dodgers will have a strong presence at the 2026 MLB All-Star Game later this month as Shohei Ohtani, Freddie Freeman, Andy Pages, Max Muncy and Yoshinobu Yamamoto were all selected to the National League team.
Freeman is going to start at first base in what represents his 10th career All-Star Game selection and fifth since joining the Dodgers.
“It’s amazing,” Freeman told Kirsten Watson on SportsNet LA. “I want to say thank you to the fans for voting me in. It’s special. Every All-Star Game is special to go to.
“Get to have a family picture and all that stuff. I know my boys are happy. I would say my girl too, but I don’t think she knows what’s going on yet. It’s going to be awesome. Tenth All-Start Game, I couldn’t ask for a more special experience.”
Freeman starting at first base for the NL was an expected outcome as he remained ahead of his peers at every All-Star voting update. Freeman and the Atlanta Braves’ Matt Olson advanced to Phase 2 as finalists at the position.
Freeman was previously voted in by fans to start in the Midsummer Classic in 2018, 2019 and 2021 as a member of the Braves, and with the Dodgers in 2023 and 2025. Last year’s selection was particularly special for Freeman due to annual event at being held at Truist Park in Atlanta.
The three-time World Series champion is in the midst of another excellent season as he enters play Sunday hitting .297/.387/.508 with 22 doubles, 15 home runs and 49 RBI across 380 plate appearances (87 games).
Freeman was among the Dodgers All-Stars who shined in the team’s 3-0 win over the San Diego Padres on Independence Day as he went 2-for-3 with a home run, two RBI and walk.
Freddie Freeman makes Dodgers All-Star history
With his fan election, Freeman joins Steve Garvey as the only Dodgers first basemen to start three or more All-Star Games. Garvey made seven starts in the Midsummer Classic, and Gil Hodges is the only other Dodgers player to start an All-Star Game at first base.
This year’s Midsummer Classic is being played at Citizens Bank Park on Tuesday, July 14. The Dodgers’ five initial All-Star selections are tied with the Braves and Philadelphia Phillies for most in the Majors.
