One of the most memorable moments from the 2026 All-Star Game came during a break in the action, when the United States’ 250th anniversary and iconic baseball film “The Sandlot” were simultaneously celebrated.
Prior to the start of the fifth inning, Ray Charles’ rendition of “America the Beautiful” played on the video board at Citizens Bank Park as fireworks lit up the sky. While that was happening, a group of children rode bicycles onto the field in what was a clear nod to the legendary movie.
The kids then had the opportunity to interact with some of the All-Stars, which included Freddie Freeman.
“No, first time,” the Los Angeles Dodgers first baseman answered when asked if he had ever played catch in the middle of a game. “When they came to me before the game and said that I was part of it, I said, ‘Thank you.’ That was pretty cool.
“My kid’s name was Noah, he’s 14, he’s going to North Carolina soon to play some baseball. Pretty cool, pretty special. It’s one of the cooler moments I’ve been a part of on the baseball field. That fireworks Sandlot moment, makes you feel like a kid again.”
Freeman added: “He had a good arm on him. He’s 14, so I think he’s got a bright future ahead of him.”
As for the game itself, Freeman started at first base for the National League and went 0-for-2 before being removed in the top of the fifth. He did manage to draw a walk and show off his defensive skillset on multiple occasions.

Freeman, who is now in his 17th season, participated in his 10th All-Star Game on Tuesday. It was an extra special night for the 36-year-old, whose wife Chelsea, four children and in-laws got to watch him in person.
“It was awesome these last two days,” Freeman began. “I know there’s a lot going on, but to take a step back and realize how special it is to be at an All-Star Game, my kids are getting older so the boys are starting to understand what’s going on.
“Charlie got to shag during the Home Run Derby and get some autographs. That’s what it’s all about for me. As I get older, just take a step back, realize, and create memories with the kids.”
