Dodgers Rumors: Bulk Of Focus On Francisco Lindor Trade With Indians

3 Min Read

Coming off a disappointing Winter Meetings in San Diego, one avenue the Los Angeles Dodgers appear to be exploring in effort to improve their roster is a potential trade for Cleveland Indians All-Star Francisco Lindor.

The Dodgers were said to have interest in a possible deal in October, though that was followed shortly after by the Indians publicly declaring they would not move their shortstop. Nevertheless, the teams are believed to be engaged in trade talks.

As part of those negotiations, one reported iteration of a deal would see the Dodgers acquire a package that includes Mike Clevinger and Lindor. That’s since been followed by L.A. being among the teams with interest in Corey Kluber as well, presumably also part of a trade for Lindor.

While the Dodgers have a need for starting pitching and continue to be connected to various options, their primary focus remains Lindor, according to Jon Heyman of MLB Network:

Dodgers said still to be more focused on Lindor. Dodger roster is so good that it may take superstar to seriously improve it.

Although the Dodgers have a quality shortstop in Seager, Lindor would better fit the team’s approach at the plate and also add some versatility as a switch-hitter. Both players remain under team control through the 2021 season.

It’s unclear what impact a trade for Lindor would have on Seager, particularly since the Indians aren’t believed to be interested in swapping shortstops. Cleveland instead is seeking a return that includes top prospects Gavin Lux and Dustin May.

The Dodgers fielded interest on Lux and May leading up to the trade deadline this past season and remained steadfast in their refusal to discuss either in negotiations. That’s presumed to still hold true, though if L.A. was to pry Clevinger, it may require sending Lux and May to Cleveland.
