Tyler Glasnow delivered his sharpest outing of the season. While the Los Angeles Dodgers saw their bid for a no-hitter broken up in the ninth inning, they rallied late to defeat the Colorado Rockies 3-1 on Monday night at Dodger Stadium.
Oddsmakers had the Dodgers as heavy -300 favorites, with the Rockies listed at +240 underdogs. The total was 8.5 runs, and the game stayed under despite late drama.
Glasnow, making his first career start against Colorado, struck out 11 batters and walked two across seven innings. He threw 105 pitches, one shy of his season high, and allowed no hits. The right-hander had been scratched from his previous start against Baltimore due to back tightness, though tests cleared him for Monday’s appearance. With a dominant fastball-slider combination, he controlled the Rockies lineup from the start, lowering his opponents’ batting average allowed to .181, best among National League starters.
Blake Treinen followed Glasnow with a perfect eighth inning to keep the combined no-hit bid alive. Tanner Scott entered in the ninth but surrendered a leadoff double to Ryan Ritter, ending Los Angeles’ pursuit of what would have been its 24th no-hitter in franchise history. Scott retired the next three hitters to preserve the win, securing his 21st save of the season.
The Dodgers, who saw Yoshinobu Yamamoto lose a no-hitter with two outs in the ninth in Baltimore two nights earlier, came up short of the milestone for a second consecutive game. Their most recent no-hitter remains a combined effort against the San Diego Padres in Mexico in 2018.
Colorado scored in the second inning when Jordan Beck drew a walk, advanced on a groundout, and came home on Kyle Farmer’s sacrifice fly. The Rockies held that 1-0 lead until the sixth, when Freddie Freeman tied the game with an RBI double off reliever Juan Meija.
The breakthrough came in the seventh. With two outs, Andy Pages was hit by a pitch and Shohei Ohtani followed with a double to center. Mookie Betts, who has been heating up at the plate, drove both runners home with a sharp single up the middle, giving Los Angeles a 3-1 lead it would not relinquish.
The Rockies, already long out of contention, continue to struggle down the stretch. Their 104th loss of the season set a franchise record for defeats, marking the third consecutive year they have surpassed 100 losses. They have now dropped 10 of their last 12 games.
Glasnow, who has 81 strikeouts in 14 starts this season, has struggled to earn victories, saddled with 10 no-decisions. Monday’s outing highlighted his dominance and lack of run support in prior starts.
The win kept Los Angeles one game ahead of the San Diego Padres in the tightly contested NL West. The Dodgers improved to 76-57 while the Padres remained close behind at 75-57.
The series continues Tuesday night with Rockies right-hander Germán Márquez (3-12, 6.19 ERA) scheduled to face Dodgers right-hander Emmet Sheehan (5-3, 3.59). The Dodgers are expected to open as strong betting favorites once again.
