The Los Angeles Dodgers finished off their four-game series against the San Francisco Giants with a win, and they helped make some Dodger Stadium history in the process.
It became just the fourth time in Dodger Stadium history that featured both a leadoff home run and an inside-the-park homer in the same game. It also was just the second time that the leadoff home run and inside-the-park homer have been on separate swings.
Here are all the times that occurrences have happened at Dodger Stadium in its 64-year history.
Dodger Stadium games with leadoff home run and inside-the-park homer
Aug. 9, 2003
The first occurrence came on Aug. 9, 2003, when now-manager Dave Roberts hit a leadoff inside-the-park home run for the Dodgers against Matt Clement and the Chicago Cubs.
June 17, 2007
The second happened on June 17, 2007, and that was the first time it happened with two separate swings. Rafael Furcal led off the bottom of the first inning with a homer against Los Angeles Angels’ pitcher Kelvim Escobar, and then Gary Matthews hit an inside-the-park homer against Dodger pitcher Brett Tomko in the top of the eighth inning.
Aug. 8, 2012
Prior to Thursday, the most recent occurrence was on Aug. 8, 2012, when Eric Young Jr. started the game with a leadoff inside-the-park homer for the Colorado Rockies against Chad Billingsley.

On Thursday, Will Smith started the Dodgers’ half of the first inning with a leadoff home run. He was in the leadoff spot for the first time in his career with Shohei Ohtani out of the lineup for the second straight day.
Smith took the fourth pitch he saw in the at-bat against Landen Roupp and hit it over the right-center field wall. With that, it also marked the first leadoff homer of his career in just his first at-bat from the leadoff spot.
The inside-the-park home run was hit by Jung Hoo Lee in the fifth inning against Emmet Sheehan. Lee hit a ball down the left field line that dropped into fair territory before bouncing left. It then ricocheted off the wall down the line as Teoscar Hernández poorly misplayed the ball and let it roll past him, all the way to the outfield wall.
