The Los Angeles Dodgers closed out their 2026 regular season by defeating the San Francisco Giants in extra innings to secure the series sweep and win their 100th game of the season.
The Dodgers entered the final weekend with nothing to play for as their seeding in the 2026 MLB postseason had already been set regardless of the outcomes of their games. Instead, the club essentially used them as tune-ups to prepare for their playoff run.
While the games didn’t have much effect on the Dodgers, they still held meaning for manager Dave Roberts. By sweeping the Giants, Roberts added another 100-win season to his record as the Dodgers’ skipper.
That was the sixth time in his career that Roberts has led his team to the century mark in a season, along with 2017, 2019, 2021, 2022 and 2023. With six 100-win seasons, Roberts joined Hall of Famers Bobby Cox and Joe McCarthy as the only skippers in MLB history to have accomplished that feat.
Both Cox and McCarthy finished their careers with six 100-win seasons, so Roberts is now tied for the MLB record and has a chance to break it in the coming years.
Among all-time MLB managers, Roberts ranks seventh in winning percentage at .621. Since Jackie Robinson broke MLB’s color barrier, no MLB manager has a better winning percentage than Roberts.
Among managers with at least 10 years at the helm, Roberts ranks second in winning percentage to Vic Harris (.664), who managed from 1936-48.
Before Roberts, the last Dodgers manager to win 100 games in a season was Walter Alston in 1974, when he won 102. Both Alston and Leo Durocher reached 100 wins twice.
Chuck Dressen and Ned Hanlon are the only other Dodgers skippers to have reached the feat. All four of their previous managers who have done it have been elected to the Hall of Fame.
Tommy Lasorda’s career high was 98 wins in 1977, and Burt Shotton also fell short with a high of 97 wins in 1949.
Roberts is also moving toward the MLB record for most wins in the postseason and has a chance to set that record by the end of 2027. He currently ranks third with 69 playoff wins.
That has him two wins behind the second spot, which Tony La Russa holds. Joe Torre holds the MLB record with 84 playoff wins in the postseason, and Roberts would hit 80 with another World Series title this year.
Dodgers 100-win season history
For the Dodgers, it was their first time winning 100 games in a season since 2023, and the fifth time in the last seven full seasons they have reached that total.
The Dodgers have reached the 100-win total 12 times in franchise history, with their first coming in 1899 as the Brooklyn Superbas. Of their 12 100-win seasons, four of them came while in Brooklyn.
The Dodgers record for most wins in a season came in 2022 when they won 111 games. The previous high was 106 wins, which they set in 2021 and 2019. Before that, their record was set by the 1953 Brooklyn Dodgers with 105.
Even with all their regular season success in those years, the Dodgers have not won the World Series in a year in which they’ve reached the century mark in wins. They have made it to the Fall Classic four times in those seasons, but have come up short every time.
