strong>Cutter Gauthier is going to get a big deal from the Anaheim Ducks. How big will it go?
The Chris Johnston Show: Chris Johnston and Julien McKenzie talking about Anaheim Ducks RFA forward Cutter Gauthier.

McKenzie: “I want to go to Cutter Gauthier. On the subject of players who could be, do these contracts and raises. You did mention that’s a contract of interest to you, a potential contract of interest to you.
We know about the Leo Carlsson situation where he’s going to be making upwards of $18 mill per for the foreseeable future. What do you think that means for a next contract for Cutter Gauthier? What do you think he could, he could stand to reach in this next AAV?
Johnston: “Well, let’s remind everyone this guy scored 40 goals this year, and he’s still a very young player. You know, that’s something that Connor Bedard hasn’t yet accomplished in the league. Not saying certainly; I think it’s a matter of when, not if for Bedard. But Bedard signed a $15 million AAV over five years with Chicago this summer.
NHL Rumors: What’s Happening with the Detroit Red Wings GM Search
To me, that’s, that’s the range that I expect Gauthier to land in. I could, I could see it being a hair under 15. I could see it being a hair over 15. But I think that, that’s roughly what you’re looking at. And, and that’s, you know, I think back, I covered the Ducks-Oilers playoff series at that point in time, I wouldn’t have thought you’re talking about Leo Carlsson and, and Cutter Gauthier getting to 33 million between them on the next deals. I mean that even, even as recently as a couple months ago, that would have sounded crazy.
But, you know, I think it’s a good way to highlight how unique the summer has been, and I think what how important that, that Carlsson offer sheet is. That, that changed the game for everyone, even, even the superstars. I bet if Cale Makar signed before that offer sheet, he wouldn’t have went all the way to 20, and,or 20.4. But you know, it got a little, it got to where it made more sense because more and more players are, are pushing the upper limit, and, and so this is it’s just, it’s kind of a cool thing for the NHL I think.”
