The Los Angeles Dodgers and Kershaw’s Challenge came together to host the 13th annual Back to School Bash on Saturday, which saw more than 1,500 students from the Southern California region receive backpacks and school supply kits in effort to help prepare them for the school year ahead.
“It’s awesome. I remember when I was first getting ready to go back to school, you go to CVS or Target to get your school supplies, I know how fun it is,” Kershaw said. “So to get to do that for some kiddos is pretty cool.”
While Kershaw’s Challenge and the Los Angeles Dodgers Foundation (LADF) had previously collaborated on the Back to School Bash event, this year marked the first time it was held at Dodger Stadium.

“We’ve partnered with The Dream Center for so many years and they’ve worked in the community around Dodger Stadium tirelessly, so to get to bring that community here to Dodger Stadium for the first time is really cool,” Kershaw said. “To get kids excited about school is really the most important thing. If this helps a little bit, that’s a good thing.”
Primary beneficiaries of the event were LADF Dodgers Dreamteam participants and students from select Los Angeles Unified School District schools. Along with school supplies, attendees also were treated to a day filled with music from a live DJ, face painting, balloon artists and special appearances.
Students and their families also received non-perishable pantry food items, including cereal, granola bars and other snacks.
“Through this inaugural Back to School Bash, we officially kick off the partnership between the Los Angeles Dodgers and Kershaw’s Challenge and the next chapter in the storied legacy of community impact by Dodger great Clayton Kershaw,” Dodgers vice president of government and community affairs Kristin McCowan said in a statement.
“This event reflects our continued commitment to investing in youth and ensuring that students have access to the resources they need to succeed on and off the field.”
