The WNBA continues to soar in popularity, driven by a recent influx of talent, with Indiana Fever star Caitlin Clark as the face of this new era. Her electrifying play has drawn more eyes to women’s sports, going from a phenom at Iowa to now the WNBA.
In her third season with the Fever, Clark is averaging 21.7 points and 8.2 assists. This is her best year, resulting in a shoe deal with Nike and she recently revealed her history with sneakers, growing up wearing Los Angeles Lakers legend Kobe Bryant’s line, via Jared Ebanks of Slam:
“As somebody who’s been a sneakerhead her whole life and has always wanted the newest pair of shoes, even when I was in high school, I remember going on Nike iD and iDing my own Kobes. I always loved getting to do that and making it your own, but at the same time, it’s still your favorite player’s and you’re kind of sharing that with them. So, I hope when people grab the bright blue box, I hope you feel it right when you grab the box off the shelf, that it’s pure joy and fire and passion and it’s a part of me.”
With Mamba Day taking place every year on Aug. 24, Bryant’s shoes remain in high demand at Nike with continued releases through the years. Many basketball players like Clark have a history of wearing Kobe’s when they hoop due to the comfortability and iconic colorways.
