The Los Angeles Dodgers reacquired Miguel Rojas from the Miami Marlins prior to the 2023 season after the veteran shortstop spent parts of eight years in South Beach.
During that time, Rojas emerged as a leader in the Marlins clubhouse and received praise from many players. However, he evidently did not have a fan in Jazz Chisholm Jr., who criticized the 35-year-old during a podcast appearance earlier this year.
Among other complaints and talking points, Chisholm accused Rojas of not waking him up from a nap when a meeting was beginning. The now-New York Yankees utility player also believed Rojas and others veterans on the Marlins roster at the time were not welcoming to rookies.
With the Dodgers and Yankees meeting in the 2024 World Series, it seemingly represented an opportunity for Chisholm and Rojas to address the matter and move on.
“I have nothing about it. I go out there, I play baseball, and I’m enjoying baseball. Nothing more, nothing less,” Chisholm answered when asked if he and Rojas had spoken.
Rojas responded shortly after Chisholm made his public criticism and said the only issue he took with the comments were personal attacks that he believed extend beyond baseball.
Rojas added that he was not interested in speaking with Chisholm to clear the air due to believing a perception has already been formed.
Yankees want spark from Jazz Chisholm
Chisholm has not only taken well to playing third base for the Yankees, but he’s also brought a speed element to their lineup.
That was on display in the 10th inning of Game 1, when he stole second base and took third with Blake Treinen on the mound.
“I feel like I’m in scoring position if I’m on first base. I don’t think about steals being the only way I can score,” Chisholm said.
“Ball hitting the gap, going from first base, just being able to keep on going and reading the ball and reading the play, keeping everybody on their feet, making sure everybody’s awake out there.”
