Thursday night in the National Basketball Association brought us three games. In fact, three close games. Let’s check out what happened on that night.
The Magic trailed as many as 11 points in the fourth quarter but they came back to catch the Raptors. With 20 seconds left, E’Twaun Moore was able to tie the game at 95. However, DeMar DeRozan made a difficult perimeter jumper over two Magic players at the buzzer as the Raptors got away with their fifth win on the road. DeRozan would end the game with 22 points. The Magic wasted another great effort by Nikola Vucevic, who had 19 points and 14 rebounds.
While everybody else made unfunny breakfast cereal jokes and overhyped the Carmelo Anthony/Kevin Garnett “feud”, there was an actual game played between the Celtics and the Knicks. But the Celtics couldn’t even get a chance to tie the game as Paul Pierce couldn’t even hold on to the ball in their final possession. Carmelo scored 28 points for the Knicks. Rajon Rondo had another triple-double with 23 points, 10 rebounds, and 11 assists. Celtics have dropped five straight games.
The Clippers, still without Chris Paul, were flat throughout the game. The Suns scored six straight points late in the game to boost their lead to 86-79. However, the Clipper defense and a Jamal Crawford three cut the lead down to 86-85 with 26 seconds left and looked poised to steal the game from Phoenix. But with 19 seconds left, Crawford missed the first foul shot when they were down, 88-85, which meant it would make a two-possession game if the Suns made both foul shots on the other end. When they did foul Shannon Brown, it turned out to be a clear path foul (two foul shots and the ball). Ballgame. Goran Dragic tore into the Clippers all game long with 24 points and eight assists. The Clips have lost their third straight game while the Suns are 2-0 with Lindsey Hunter on the helm (year of the interim coaches!).
