Five games went on in one of the most anticipated regular season days of the season: Christmas Day. If you missed any of them, here’s the recap.
The Nets looked horrible on offense, turning the ball over 20 times. The Celtics just seemed to do everything right and ran away with the game by the third quarter. Rajon Rondo led Boston with 19 points and rookie Jared Sullinger went for 16 points.
It was a close game throughout but the Lakers turned up the defense in the fourth quarter. Finally, with the Lakers up three in the waning seconds of the game, Pau Gasol took it strong to the hole and smashed a two-handed dunk to seal the win for L.A. Kobe Bryant scored 34 points as he has scored 30+ points for the ninth straight game.
LeBron James found Chris Bosh for a clutch dunk. And when the Thunder needed a three, Kevin Durant and Russell Westbrook’s attempts didn’t go down. Westbrook was particularly upset about his last one when he felt he was fouled on the attempt (though he kicked his legs out like Reggie Miller). LeBron James finished with 29 points, eight rebounds, and nine assists.
In a surprising laugher, the Rockets poured it on the Bulls as Chicago couldn’t stop Houston from scoring in transition (Rockets had 31 fastbreak points). James Harden finished with 26 points, Jeremy Lin had 20 points and 11 assists, and former Bull Omer Asik went for 20 points and 18 rebounds. The Rockets won their fourth straight game.
Matt Barnes scored 20 points off the bench as the Clippers also ran the Nuggets out of the building. It’s after Christmas and the Clippers have the best record in the league at 22-6. Unbelievable. The Clippers also add to their franchise record winning streak; they have now won 14 in a row.
