It was a busy Friday night in the NBA; 12 games in an action-packed December 28th of 2012. Let’s check out the recap.
The Magic got off to a 25-8 start, including 14 fast points for Jameer Nelson. But the Wizards deleted the lead and went on a 10-0 run in the third quarter to easily get rid of the Magic and get their fourth victory of the season. Jordan Crawford came off the bench to score 27 points. The Magic have now lost four straight games.
David West came up big once again for the Pacers. His jumper broke a tie with three minutes left and another jumper boosted the Pacer lead to five points with less than a minute left. George Hill led the Pacers with 22 points.
The Nets started the P.J. Carlesimo regime by handing the Bobcats their 17th straight loss. Brook Lopez had 26 points and 11 boards for Brooklyn as they go above .500 at 15-14.
The Pistons were down early but had a 41-point second quarter to come back. Then the Pistons bench, led by Will Bynum’s 25 points, shocked the Heat in the second half as they snapped Miami’s six-game win streak. LeBron James led a Wade-less Miami with 35 points.
Kyle Korver made a huge three-pointer with 1:21 left as the Hawks held the Cavs down to 14 points in the fourth quarter. Jeff Teague had a career-high 27 points to lead ATL.
Ryan Anderson’s three-pointer sent the game to overtime but the Raptors were too much in the extra period. DeMar DeRozan led Toronto with 30 points. The Raptors have now won six of their last seven games.
It was all Denver Nuggets in this game. Danilo Gallinari scored a career-high 39 points in this contest. The Mavericks continue on their freefall; they have now lost five games in a row.
This was a fun shootout but the Spurs pulled away in the fourth quarter with an 11-0 run. Tony Parker had 31 points and 10 assists while old man Tim Duncan continued his unbelievable season by scoring 30 points. The Spurs halted the Rockets’ five-game winning streak and have won four games in a row themselves.
The Clippers were down as many as 19 points in Utah but came storming back at the end of the third quarter. Then Chris Paul took over and scored the last seven points for the Clips, including a big jumper over Gordon Hayward. Randy Foye missed a three-pointer at the buzzer and the Clippers escaped to win their 16th game in a row. CP3 ended up with 29 points.
The Kings led as many as 27 points but the Knicks came all the way back and even had a 105-103 lead in the waning seconds. But in a wild sequence at the end, James Johnson, who hadn’t made a three-pointer all season, sank a shot behind the arc at the buzzer to give Sacramento the win. Marcus Thornton had 18 points in a balanced attack and DeMarcus Cousins had 15 points and 10 rebounds in his return.
Lakers led all the way from start to finish in Jamaal Wilkes Jersey Retirement night and recovered nicely from that debacle against Denver. Kobe Bryant scored 27 points and sat out the fourth quarter. The Lakers are now 6-1 in their last seven games.
The Warriors used a big second quarter to defeat the Sixers at Oracle. David Lee had 23 points and 12 boards for Golden State. The Warriors are now 20-10 and it’s nice to see them win 20 games before the calendar year is over.
