There was no doubt that he’d be getting suspended, it was just a matter of how many games.
Brendan Shanahan and the NHL suspended New York Islanders right winger Colin McDonald for two games for his boarding hit on Pittsburgh Penguins defenseman Ben Lovejoy.
McDonald trailed Lovejoy into the zone, in full view of the numbers, then drove him from behind into the boards. Lovejoy did not turn into the hit.
Shanahan noted that the key points to the suspension were that it was boarding, that there was no apparent injury on the play, and that McDonald has no been subject to supplementary discipline in the past.
Colin McDonald’s two-game suspension will cost him $7,567.56. #NYI
