In the last 24 hours, there has been some bad news for the Calgary Flames, Toronto Maple Leafs and St. Louis Blue.

The Flames learned today that they will be without start Miikka Kiprusoff for at least the next two weeks. with a slight (Grade 2) medial collateral ligament sprain. The Flames claimed Joey MacDonald off waivers from the Detroit Red Wings yesterday. They also put goalie Danny Taylor on waivers today for the purpose of reassigning him to Abbottsford of the AHL.

In the second period of last night’s Maple Leafs – Flyers game, Leafs goalie James Reimer went down with a lower-body injury. Reimer remained on the ice for a couple minutes while talking to the training, and had to be helped off the ice by defenseman John-Michael Liles. After the game, coach Randy Carlyle said:

“We don’t think it’s that serious at this point,” said Leafs coach Randy Carlyle. “He shouldn’t miss any extended period of time. … He’s probably going to miss some time, but it won’t be a long drawn out process.”

It was revealed this afternoon that Reimer has a strained MCL and is expected to be out for at least a week. It’s very unlikely that the Maple Leafs will go after another goalie, mainly Roberto Luongo, and will go with Ben Scrivens for the time being.

The Blues had been without Jaroslav Halak, but were hoping to have him back in the lineup. He took part in the warm-ups last night, but re-injured his groin. Blues coach, Ken Hitchcock, said they weren’t sure of his status going forward. The Blues have called up Jake Allen from the AHL to backup Brian Elliott.
