Phil Jackson is apparently coming out with a new book. Grantland actually has the book cover. Here we go:
More from Grantland:
Eleven Rings: The Soul of Success by Phil Jackson and Hugh Delehanty is the first book by the Zen Master in nine years. It tells the story of Phil’s journey from rural North Dakota to bright lights and Larry O’Brien Trophies in Los Angeles.
Phil Jackson’s most recent book was called The Last Season: A Team In Search Of Its Soul, which was released in 2004. He also authored Maverick (1975), Sacred Hoops: Spiritual Lessons of a Hardwood Warrior (1995), and More Than A Game (2001).
It was the 2004 book that garnered the most attention as it talked about the tumultuous 2003-04 Lakers season. Phil Jackson was real critical of Kobe Bryant in the book, saying he wouldn’t coach the team if Bryant was still on the Lakers. The 2003-04 Lakers reached the NBA Finals but ultimately ended in disappointment after the Detroit Pistons outplayed them and beat the Lakers in five games.
Jackson would go on to say that Kobe was uncoachable. He also said that he loved coaching Shaquille O’Neal. Phil Jackson, after a season away from the Lakers, returned and reunited with Kobe Bryant and the team in 2005. The duo would go on to win two more championships in 2009 and 2010, totalling 11 rings for the man who is considered the greatest NBA coach of all-time.
Phil Jackson had his first head coaching job with the Chicago Bulls in 1989. He would go on to win six NBA titles with Michael Jordan and Scottie Pippen; the team would win three in a row from 1991-93 and then three more in a row from 1996-98. After a year away from coaching, he took over the helm of the Los Angeles Lakers and won three straight from 2000-02.
Eleven Rings: The Soul Of Success by Phil Jackson and Hugh Delehanty will be released on May 21, 2013.
