After making every effort to avoid putting their all-star third baseman on the disabled list, the Baltimore Orioles have found themselves without a choice.
According to NBC Sports Hardball Talk, the Orioles have placed third baseman Manny Machado on the 15-day disabled list with right knee ligament sprain that occurred on Monday night.

This will be the second knee injury that the Orioles have lost Machado to. His previous injury came last season as he tore a ligament in his left knee.
In Machado’s absence the Orioles have shifted first baseman Chris Davis across the diamond to third base, where he’s started 68 career games.
After a terrible start to the 2014 season and a suspension for tossing his bat, Machado has hit .351 in 28 games since July 1, raising his OPS from .662 to .755 during that time. Machado is hitting .278 this season to go along with 12 home runs and 32 RBI’s.
This injury is also scary because of how crucial Machado is on defense. Machado has made a number of plays in the field this season, and consistent knee injuries could limit his range.
The Orioles currently hold a six and a half game lead over the Toronto Blue Jays in the American League East.
