As the NHL approaches the February 29th trade deadline, Stan Bowman and the Chicago Blackhawks have made the first major personel move acquiring Andrew Ladd from the Winnipeg Jets.
From Mark Easson and MyNHLtraderumors.com:
The Winnipeg Jets have traded left winger Andrew Ladd, Jay Harrison and Matt Fraser to the Chicago Blackhawks for Marco Dano, a 2016 first round pick and a conditional 2018 3rd round pick – if the Blackhawks win the cup.
Reaction from around the league was immediate:
Adrian Dater: “Blackhawks felt they needed real top-6 forward to play with Toews. Didn’t want to have to rely on an Andrew Shaw on his line”
Mark Lazerus: “Fraser and Harrison to Rockford.”
Shawn Simpson: “Credit the Hawks. They’ve become the modern day Wings. Always pushing the limits. Anything left for Hamhuis?”
Dan Rosen: “Ladd is exactly the type of player the Blackhawks needed. He can play LW with Toews and Hossa. He has won. He knows the org. It should work.”
The British Columbia native has 202 goals and 252 assists in 750 career NHL games. This will be Ladd’s second stint Chicago after playing for 5 seasons in Winnipeg. An unrestricted free agent come July 1, it is expected that Ladd will test the market.
