2014 Olympics: Five Countries Announce Preliminary Rosters

Preparation for the hockey tournament for 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi are well underway. Management and coaching staffs are mostly in place, and countries are putting together their preliminary rosters.

Most countries will have summer evaluation camps in August. Due to insurance issues, countries like Canada won’t be taking to the ice, but will prep potential players on what to expect in Russia and how things will be run.

It is possible for players not listed below to make a countries Olympic squad.

Hockey Canada invited 47 players to their August orientation camp for the 2014 Sochi Olympics.

Forwards: Patrice Bergeron, Jeff Carter, Logan Couture, Sidney Crosby, Matt Duchene, Jordan Eberle, Ryan Getzlaf, Claude Giroux, Taylor Hall, Chris Kunitz, Andrew Ladd, Milan Lucic, Brad Marchand, Rick Nash, James Neal, Corey Perry, Mike Richards, Patrick Sharp, Eric Staal, Jordan Staal, Martin St. Louis, Steven Stamkos, John Tavares, Joe Thornton, Jonathan Toews.

Defence: Karl Alzner, Jay Bouwmeester, Dan Boyle, Drew Doughty, Mike Green, Dan Hamhuis, Travis Hamonic, Duncan Keith, Kris Letang, Marc Methot, Dion Phaneuf, Alex Pietrangelo, Brent Seabrook, Marc Staal, P.K. Subban, Marc-Edouard Vlasic, Shea Weber

USA Hockey will have 48 players at their summer orientation camp in August. 16 players have Olympic experience, but they have included many young players on their preliminary list.

Oshie, Max Pacioretty, Kyle Palmieri, Zach Parise, Joe Pavelski, Bobby Ryan, Brandon Saad, Craig Smith, Paul Stastny, Derek Stepan, James van Riemsdyk, Blake Wheeler.

Russia has 35 players on their preliminary roster. Notable omissions include Ilya Bryzgalov and Alex Burmistrov.

Sweden has named 35 players to their preliminary roster, and hope to improve on their fifth place finish in Vancouver.

Finland has will have one of the largest camps with 54 players named for their summer evaluation camp.
